My name is Madeline Brice. I’m an artist. I was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri. I studied fine arts at Missouri State University and ultimately graduated in December of 2015 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts – Painting and a minor in Art History. I’m currently painting, living, and working in Downtown Springfield as the studio manager for a locally owned paint and sip. I just recently re-enrolled at Missouri State to seek a second bachelor’s degree in Art History and Museum Studies.
In regards to my paintings, I’ve always viewed them as an extension of myself, as a lot of artists do. They’re deeply personal, but also vague in meaning for the viewer. I’ve always gotten a huge kick out of creating these environments, these beds, that seem dreamy and comfortably inviting, yet the underlying symbolism is far from that. At this point, they’re a summation or symbol of my past and present relationships as well as a stand against the way the women have always been perceived and portrayed in art.
